Are all single sex (gendered) schools independent?

If one wants to send their child to an all girls schools, are they all independent?

Do state schools exist for girls only or boys only?

I saw a secondary Catholic school called Ursuline in NW London that is all girls but it's a state school. Is it only state religious schools that have same sex schools?

My girls are really young, but I was just wondering if primary all girls' state existed at all.

Just wondering?

Thanks

There's a girls state senior school in Twickenham ( 11 - 16) not religious - very well regarded, called Waldegrave. Not heard of any for junior age though.

yup, there's a boys state school and a girls state school in bishops stortford (secondary not primary though, never heard of a single sex primary)

Often in grammar school areas there are single sexed secondaries, not come across any state primaries though.

There are single sex state secondaries in Didcot.

and there are boys/girls state grammar schools in london borough of redbridge, also i think in southend in essex, and in amersham in bucks.

There are single sex state secondaries in St Albans.

It seems a bit weird to have single sex at primary level. Boys aren't THAT nasty. Why do you want single sex at primary level.

I think there are state single sex primary schools in northern ireland. Who in their right mind would choose to send their daughter here

Single sex grammars in Bucks. Don't know of any primary, though...

crazygracieuk · 10/10/2011 17:16

In Epsom there are single sex secondary schools (Rosebery and Glyns)

reallytired · 10/10/2011 17:17

Or Winterbourne Junior girls' School croydon

Iwantacampervan · 10/10/2011 18:09

Single sex state secondaries in Chichester but I'm not aware of any state primaries that aren't co-ed.

Most single sex state schools are grammars, I think, but there are some that aren't. The very fine institution Southfield School for Girls in Kettering for example Grin.

Also I believe there's a single sex boys' school in Northampton (Kettering Boys' closed a few years back), though it might be a grammar school, I'm not sure.

Thanks Ladies. I was just wondering. Here, if it's public, it can't be single sex, but it appears at the secondary level you have quite a few grammar schools (religious or not) that are single sex.

I agree, boys aren't that nasty at a young age.... :)

Really, I was just interested if all the girls only schools 3-11 were private.

My husband prefers all girls, I am not so sure. Imagine having sisters only and then a school day of all girls? No wonder my daughter asked to have a batman costume.

Thanks again.
