Has anyone had leave authorised for taking a child out for 1 day for a wedding or something?

It's my sister's wedding next May and it's on a Friday, DD has been asked to be a bridesmaid and is in Y3. I also have a DS who is in YR and will not be 5yo. We would be leaving straight after school on the Thurs and returning on the Sat (it's a good 2hr drive away).

It's more DD than DS I'm worried about with school (although they both attend the same school). School has a policy of refusing all in year holiday requests. I feel this is fairly exceptional but not sure whether school will take the same view!

Has anyone's school had a problem with anything like this? When do you think would be the best time to mention it to school?

do they have a policy on authorised abcenses. we have form to fill in to be done 5 weeks prior. we are permitted 14 days per year.

if they dont agree it will just go down as unauthorised, not a biggy for your dcs age. pretty shitty of the head though if they dont agree.

i took dd & ds out of school last year for the same reason, my brother was getting married on a friday, we drove up on the thurs after scchol and kept them off for just one day. school were fine about it and it went down as authorised absence.

I think it's pretty special, considering close relative and bridesmaid-ness and all - It wouldn't be a huge deal if it went down as unauth'd. I had thought of just ringing in sick for them on the day, but they'll only be blabbing about it when they get back so would rather be truthful with school, we shouldn't get into heaps of trouble over 1 day of unauthorised absence should we?

you wont get into any trouble it is not against the law to take your dcs out for a day or so.

Yes, we did it for the ds's when my dsis and bil got married, no problem at all.

I asked the school if I had to fill in a form, they said no, so I just wrote a letter and all was fine.

A wedding of a close relative is a very special event, no way on earth would I have sent my ds's to school and all of us would have had to miss the wedding.

You won't get into any trouble, just ask. My ds's have missed a day for a wedding and a funeral. These things happen!

My DCs school has a form to fill in & then they decline with a letter saying they will not authorise any absence so not sure why they have the form?
I would be inclined to pull a sicky as there will be a weekend too & the wedding could have taken place anytime over the 3 days, iyswim?
