I sat in dismay a parent of a year three child just starting at the school.. attending a parents meeting to discuss the inadequate ofsted report... as the chairman of governers stated that it had been a particularly bad year for students!!! He was overall so negative about the children and many parents reacted angrily when he said this ! I feel the governers should be changed in order for the school to improve......... not even a website thats up and running at the school but they will stay in place any thoughts.............they are not even elected ? They are voluntary ? what do they get out of it? The chairman talked over us felt like we were being lectured to by a higher being!!!

I shouldn?t worry too much about the temporary Head, the Local Authority aren?t going to put in a bad one. Without knowing too much about the particular situation I?d be very pleased indeed about the new Head. The school is now on the road to recovery.

You sound like an ideal candidate for a governor, I'm not saying this in a piss take and/or arselicky way but you obviously care deeply about the school and have taken time to find out what is going on. Go on I dare you, I think you'd really enjoy it. If only I was at your school I would nominate you!

and you might find out that the cofg has redeeming qualities, despite his ability to put his foot in it whilst public speaking...

The Chair of governors is I suspect listening to much to the school staff and especially the senior management team, accepting what is said rather than doing what they are supposed to do and be a "critical friend". That means that they ask appropriate questions and I would hazard a guess that the whole Gb has not been asking the questions necessary of what is possibly a weak senior management.
If they had been asking the right questions, they would have known that the year 6 were a weaker cohort and asked what the school was doing about it. More importantly Ofsted would not have gone for notice to improve on the basis of one poor set of results, there will be an accumulation of data suggesting that the school is failing its pupils. Obviously the Gb had not asked the right questions or were being fed duff information by the SMT
The good thing is that there will now be improvements because Ofsted will be back every 6 months until the school has proved that it is now capable of standing on its own two feet and being a good school.
