so sad our fantastic school closed its doors for the last time today

after 2 years of campaigning, and trying to accept the closure after the governors admitted defeat, our fanststic school is no more. lots of tears all round. It was such a lovely, caring school, with oficially outstanding behaviour. the kids were so happy there, and I feel so much for the staff who now have to clear out 50 years worth of stuff and hand the keys over.

I'm sorry, I can imagine its an enormous loss to all those who've kept it going and tried to sustain it...has anything been done to keep a 'little bit' of that school in all the people involved with it?

Thanks Eli, yes there have been lots of get together events and some mementoes and photos. plus most of the children will be going to the same school in sept. it's just very hard to say goodbye after refusing to just acquiesce, and say oh yes, we don't really need this school to the council. painful moment for our community, and a reminder that schools are still being closed due to falling rolls!

Hi Jajas, thanks for the post.... i guess in time we will get used to the new school, and it'll all feel fine again. The new school is 25 mins walk away for us, which is quite a change from 5 mins! and the building is tiny compared to what we are leaving. still the great news is that one of our teachers has a temporary post there at the last minute, to cover a secondment, so that's nice. one of our teaching assisstant was given a job a few month ago, and it seemed a shame that only one member of staff would be going with the kids. most of the other staff have yet to find jobs to go to...
