Foundation stage profile scores and school report-no idea what it all means!!!

Was planning to read dd's report when dh home but it didn't look like report, wasn't in envelope so once I started...
So now I am a bit disappointed and don't really understand the levels. Especially disappointed by effort grades, but perhaps shouldn't because all say good effort, just kind of thought more than just reading would be above average effort. As I type I am calming down... All the things say good progress just only a couple excellent progress. Maybe I had overestimated or maybe the school just has high standards.

The bit I really don't understand is the actual foundation profile numbers because I don't know the national expectations for reaching a particular number.
And here's the thing...I have written hundreds of reports in my time, as ks2 teacher and given scant thought sometimes to the parents receiving my carefully cut and pasted words of wisdom and sats scores. Presented with the first report for any of my three dc, I don't really know how to interpret it!! Welcome to the wonderful world of reports?!!

This is the FYFS assessement profile.

An "average" child would score a 6 on each area, but as you're a teacher I know you know there is no such thing as an "average" child, they are all different

However getting a 6 doesn't necessarily mean they fulfil points 1-6, it means points 1-3 + 3 others from 4-8, IYSWIM

Just filter out the edu-speak and the eprofile nonsense, somewhere in there is the teachers real view of your DC!

You know, I now understand why sone parents used to want to know where their child ranked against others. Wasn't to do with competitive parenting (well not always ) but more understanding what the numbers meant in that class. Nothing in the report is bad about dd, but it so would help me to know how hard it was to get an above average effort grade, or how good the progress was for an excellent progress grade. Blimey I'll be a better teacher if and when I go back properly!

I would say that the child would have to put in consistently above average effort to get an above average effort grade

Expected progress for me would be moving from 2/3 on entry to 6 (maybe 7) at the end of the year, so I would use excellent progress to mean a move from 0 or 1 up to 6 points in an area or from 3 up to 9.

Okay, re read report sitting next to dh and decided it's all right! We've found that link to the eyfs really helpful in understanding and realised level nine quite demanding!! And also just twigged that it's progress it's talking about, thanks to sensible words on here, as much as actual achievement. Can I just ask, do all schools have to report the same info from eyfs and is the wording standard with all schools? Thanks!
