School skirts, come and recommend me some for a short and skinny little girl

Think the title says it all really

I have a short, skinny little girl who is just finishing reception and I find dresses so much easier than skirts! You don't have to worry about the waistband fitting and they don't have to tuck their shirts in!

Thats a good tip thanks MM. Have already got her a couple of summer dresses for the first half term, they were £7 for the 2.

Do you think that Pinafores would be better then?

I'd go for pinafores. DD isn't short, but she is thin for her height, and even with adjustable waistbands her trousers and skirts look absurdly 'bunched' around her middle.

The only thing is that if the school uniform has a sweatshirt rather than a cardigan for girls then can get quite hot in pinafores - it makes 3 layers on top whereas a cardigan can be worn open to keep the arms warm but the tummy only covered by pinafore + shirt.

Dd has some skirts. I think there was one from Sainsburys and one from Tesco. Both had adjustable waists. This year we've got a couple from Asda with adjustable waists. We also have a few pinafores and tbh she does tend to prefer those.

M&S pinafores are slim fitting (not the jersey or double-breasted ones).
They are the ones with zips - don't get the one with pockets as your DC need to have arms like an orang-u-tang to reach in them!
Actually, the empire line jersey pinafore is very sweet.

These Mothercare skirts have adjustable waists and I find the length good and waist fairly small.

My DD2 is minute (2nd centile with a full tummy and wet clothes). I had her skirts taken in as we have to dress them in approved uniform. Since she never gets bigger across the middle and seems to only grow at the limbs, we've had to let down the hems a bit to avoid them getting too short. It is a good investment if your kid is built like a string bean.

My DD is pretty small, she'll be 6 in Oct and I have age 3 skirts from Sainsbury's with the adjustable waists, which fit her really well. I also have a couple of pinafores from there, but she has the age 4 in them so they are a bit longer.

I don't expect the skirts to last the whole year as they will probably get too short but they should do round til about Easter. I tried age 4 skirts from Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda, M&S and BHS which were all too big once I adjusted the waists, they just looked really bulky round her hips.

DD is tiny and I have found the M&S outstanding value skirts (2 for £6) to be a good fit on her. They are not too long and I found the adjustable waist doesn't bunch up too much. She is 4.0 and I've got the age 3.

Thanks for all the comments so far. I've had a look online at M&S but think I'm going shopping with her instead. Just think it will be easier to try stuff on whith her.
