Hi,

Fed up that children don't seem to do enough cooking in schools these days I have suggested to my DD's school that we set up a cooking club.

I am running this after school with the help of 3 teachers so small groups of 5 children each.

Can you come up with quick to make, maybe no cook receipes that the kids will enjoy making within one hour to include a bit of clearing up?

We have access to small cooker and hob.

Thanks.

I really want this to work as all places were taken within one hour of news letter going out and there is a waiting list already!!

You can make quick pizzas on the hob, no need for an oven. Soup, especially vegetable, can take only about 20 mins to cook.

Hummus is popular, as is raita. Flatbreads are quick to make and can be cooked easily in a dry frying pan or you can buy in pitta bread to toast. Couscous just needs hot water but you can make it more interesting if you have access to a frying pan to cook sliced onions ,peppers and little tomatoes .

Drop scones or mini pancakes from a batter are fine if you have access to a hob. Courgette fritters are quick and squelchy fun when you squeeze out the excess water from the courgettes .Oven scones are good and cook quickly , you can build on skills by making them savoury or sweet.

Always print out the recipes for the children to take home, or put them on the school website.
