What about supermarket school uniform tops and polo shirts?

Our cotton tops and polos come from Asda. DS is not happy about tops because he finds it very hard to take the top off; they have become very tight after washings. The sleeves also got a bit short. DS is not a big boy though. I wonder about Sainsburys tops. Are they are any good?

I like Sainsburys tops -they seem pretty hard wearing (and are cheap particularly if you wait for a clothing sale). Not noticed any problems with neck tightness.

(sorry to hijack thread but ...) does anyone know of any high street shops that stock royal blue polo shirts (rather than light blue). DS hates wearing a jumper so his polo shirts get very well worn/stained so don't want to pay too much.

I buy them from whichever supermarket I am near and have not had issues with shrinking - have Tesco, Sainsbury, George...

I don't wash above 40 though - maybe a boil wash might shrink them?

I boil wash the Sainsbury's polo shirts regularly, and they don't seem to shrink. I found they kept their shape better than the Asda ones, I think they are slightly thicker (or were, last year).

I have bought Matalan's school polo shirts the last couple of years without any problems.

Thank you. We do not boil our tops; we wash them below 50-40 degrees. I wonder whether it is just George school uniform tops or because they are made of 100% cotton. Are Sainsbury's tops 100% cotton by the way?
Another question. How often in the summer do supermarkets usually put their school uniforms on sale?

Asda, has any three of 2 blouses/shirts, 2 skirts/trousers and 2 sweatshirts for £9 until the 9th of June. I bought DD's for September on Sunday however there were none left when I was in there yesterday. I have previously bought uniform from Tesco using my double points and they are fine.

DD prefers blouses rather than polo shirts, when she was in nursery I bought polo shirts from Adam's which lasted until the end of reception, the shop near me closed ages ago, not sure if they went out of business nationally. I bought polo shirts from M&S and Matalan for reception, both were rubbish, hence why she wore the Adam's ones for two years.

Sainsbury's were 100% cotton last year. Haven't looked for this year yet. I would love not to boil wash them but my ds seems to be part dog and frequently looks like he has rolled in mud when he comes out of school. It's possible that he does

I usually find that at least two of the main uniform places will have stuff on offer throughout the summer - M&S do at the moment, Sainsbury's just had 25% off, BHS and woolworths must be due to have an offer soon as I don't think thay've had them yet.

You can still get Adams stuff online, but they are quite often out of stock on popular sizes. Mothercare polo shirts used to be really good, too, if you could get them on offer.

i buy mine from M&S and think they are great quality and as cheap as the supermarket ones anyway. I heard a few bad reviews about M&S tops shrinking but my DDs have been fine!

Will go to Sainsburys this weekend and see the tops and polos, t-shirts etc. Asda's are quite nice but then we cannot buy a size bigger because they are going to be too wide in the body. We have white t-shirts from M&S and they are nice. DS has a set of polos from Tesco he wears at home (they do not sell our colours) and they have more room than the ones from Asda George.

Re: trousers: Cotton trousers from Gap are better than from M&S because they are softer and with a zip and edjustable waistline. M&S trousers are also 100% cotton with adjustable waistline but with no zip, just pull-ups. The fabric is quite hard which is not really good for pull-ups. Gap trousers are good for cold days, not for summer.

I bought Tesco's polo shirts last year for DD, they shrink terribly, particularly in the length. But we do have to boil wash them.

I find Sainsbury's kids clothes including uniform very good.

I find it the tumbledryer that shrinks stuff more than the wash as I only wash on 40C with Napisan.

I got a lovely pack of 3 drop waist school summer dresses from John Lewis earlier in the year and they wash beautifully, lovely feeling cotton and weren't expensive, can't remember how much but it seemed quite a competitive price at the time. Also they don't need ironing which gives them double gold stars in my book!

Don't boil wash them they will look like old rags! Try spraying any stains with vanish before you wash - seems to work for us...

Or sticking Napisan in the wash. I found Vanish useless considerably less effective.

M&S have 20% off schoolwear at the moment.

Is Napisan really that good?
