I understand this can change at anytime, i phoned the LEA this morning and although the exact numbers aren't in for the school we got turned down for, i've been told thats this is where i would more than likely be on the waiting list. Is this a good position? what do you think?

Im number 4 on the waiting list as well and posted a similar thread,Ive been told that it is quite a good position to be in as there is so much movement between now and september, but to be aware we could go back down the list as well. Wish you lots of lucK! I know exactly how your feeling, its such an anxious time.

We can't answer this for you.

Some schools have lists that move a lot, eg areas where many people go private or that have a relatively mobile population.

Other schools have list that hardly move at all, eg very popular schools or schools with no nearby alternatives.

Thanks ladies, yes ukkittykat its nerve racking! I'm appealing for 2 schools, on the waiting list for one...the LEA wouldnt allow me to go on the waiting list for the other...YET...they've had an email off me today stating some 'rules' regarding that! Never again i'll tell you, DS2 is my fourth and final...can't put myself through this again! :o

Yes, it's quite good, but don't forget waiting lists are like shares where you can move down as well as up....and I always feel sorry for those who went to 1st but never got the place. As long as you have a back up plan you are happy with. But I do remember this week being very cheered up when I was told we'd moved up to number 7 on the list!! Wishing you every success!

It's really impossible to say whether No 4/5 or indeed any other number is good on a particular waiting list without a lot more information. How many reception classes are there in the school? What kind of area is the school in - if large town or city school, probably likely to be more families moving around, if smaller rural school, no 4 probably not such a great place to be. The school themselves should be able to give you an indication of how much movement there typically is on the waiting list before term starts and then how often generally spaces become available during the year. Doesn't mean that because 5 people generally get in from the waiting list every year, this will hold true for you but at least gives you an idea.
