Is there a website where I can look up what the different attainment levels actually mean?

Just been told that dd is a level 4a in reading and 4b in writing and on course to be a level 5 at the end of the summer term.

Similarly ds is 2a in reading, 2b in writing and maths, and on course to be level 3 in all subjects.

This is all great but ... I have no idea what this actually means!

I have tried googling for websites but am hopeless at that.

I know one of you clever education types will be able to link for me ... please?

End of KS1 (Y2) -

Level 1 is a 'fail'
Most kids get a level 2
Above average kids get a level 3

End of KS2 (Y6) -

Level 3 is a 'fail'
Most kids get a level 4
Above average kids get a level 5

Each level is divided into a, b & c. With a being the top and c being the bottom....

No, no, sorry, not making myself clear.

What do the levels actually mean? What kind of words can they read/what sort of writing do they do?

I want to see actual examples of level 1 reading, level 2 reading, level 3 maths, etc.

mrz has a link but guess she is in class now, teaching calculus or brain surgery or something else advanced to her year 2's.

Have just found this on the department of education's website. I searched attainment levels and lots of pages came up. I should think that some things will be there somewhere (was once a teacher but a while ago now )

I found a document about level 2 in maths, but that was just one I found. I could keep looking for other things but really need to go out now rather than spend all my time on the internet, tempting though it is :)

Of course I now want to find ones more specific to sub levels....

This is a low level 1 in writing.

Feeling just a bit smug... done and marked my L2 maths and L2 & L3 comprehension. Not looking forward to the writing tasks after the hols.

I've finished my level 2 & 3 maths, level 3 comprehension and the short writing marking. I'm trying to decide if I should do level 2 and spellings next week or wait
