Being a reader for year 6 SATs tests

Has anyone got any experience of being a reader for year 6 numeracy papers? Presumably the school will give me lots of pointers about what/what not to do, but would be interested to hear from others who have done this.

thanks.

Inflammatory? You really do go a bit OTT. My views do go against it but at no point did I say I do not follow these rules. It's just I do not personally see how it is cheating.

I suppose I went into teaching because I love working with children, watching them blossom throughout the year, seeing them progress etc. I wouldn't consider myself silly as I follow the rules, work very hard with the children, but obviously my let down is having an opinion on rules which should not be there. I just feel sorry for the children who get poorer grades due to their inability to stay focussed in a test situation. If that makes me silly for not agreeing with the rules than so be it.

And polish it however you want. The comment was immature.

If someone was observed doing as you say bilital they would be removed from the room and the child's test would be void ...they would not re sit it ... so no mark ... no level.
Inspectors don't pick battles they expect schools to follow rules and any breach is considered serious even if it seems a minor infringement to you.

bilital · 19/04/2011 20:45

Ok thank you. Was just asking. Still think it's a very stupid and unfair rule but heyho! I shall learn to keep my mouth closed about any rules enforced. They obviously know best. And just to clarify I have not broken any rules and I do not intend to do so either. It's nice to know that through these few posts I am now labelled a sock puppet and too silly to be a teacher. What a lovely person you are! Luckily my class make good progress with me and are happy and settled at school. That means more to me than your opinion any day.

Thanks

Hmm

May I recommend never venturing onto the am I being unreasonable board? Given your rather sensitive nature, it wouldn't be a good idea at all. O would recommend TES, but i don't imagine you'd find much sympathy for your 'yes, i know it's against the rules, but honestly, it's not cheating' views either.

mrz · 19/04/2011 21:11

I think it's a silly rule that I have to pay for a rather nice pair of Kurt Geiger shoes I've taken a fancy to Hmm wonders...

TethersEnd · 19/04/2011 22:26

I'm impressed at how quickly that kicked off.

Well done one and all.

I was just about to post an innocuous set of rules and got sucked in to the nail-biting white knuckle rollercoaster ride which is SATs access arrangements... Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Oh, you have, you have.

I got all misty eyed recalling my time as access arrangements co-ordinator for Y9 SATs (remember them?)...

...then I realised that I could remember nothing of value to contribute to the thread.

...then it kicked off.

Best thread of the night Smile

BehindLockNumberNine · 20/04/2011 10:06

Did we establish that bilital is the same person as TwentyFirstCenturyWoman?

If not, then where did Twentyetc go? Confused

Feenie · 20/04/2011 12:39

I am a teacher and we have a lot of pressure to improve our results this year or face possible academy status. I know that our head has 3 people as readers for a group of 18 children. They will have questions read to them as and when they like. I don't think this is right. It seems like cheating to me. Can anyone enlighten me.
Also does anyone know if a school cna be forced to become an academy if SAts have been poor for 3 years and then rise for one ...surely ofsted would have to look at progress and results over a number of years not just one. We haev a very poor head and i am really surprised no one has figured this out. She constantly manipulates data when we have LA visits ...they seem to want to buy it! We have SIPS coming out of our ears ...none of them any good ...if they were they would have realised it was the poor head that was responsible for the poor results. Teh teachers work EXTREMELY hard and try really hard and care about the children. The Head jsut wants herself to look good and her idea of leadership is shocking. HELP!

Feenie · 04/05/2012 21:28

No, it's not cheating in Maths - children can have any question read to them if they put up their hand and ask.

Cheers for upping this - it's an amusing read! Grin

Sorry to hear about your situation though - the head sounds a nightmare. I don't know if they can force academy status on you, but would agree that a three year trend would be more significant to look at.
