DS (6yo) nearly choked on food at school and is afraid to eat!

I've posted here as well as on behaviour - not sure which is right! Here does:

My DS (6yo) always has school dinners. Last week he came home and told me he got some food stuck in his throat (pasta) and since then it is now taking him ages to eat anything.
He puts food in his mouth but chews, for what feels like an eternity, then finally swallows it but then takes a sharp intake of breath so it seems it has frightened him to eat alot of solid food.
I do not want this to become a huge problem for him so what can I do to help him? We have talked to him about it and said to drink water to help wash it down. Should I be telling the school as well?
Thanks

Sounds like he had a shock. Ask the teacher or TA who sits at his table to reassure him. On the plus side, he's actually doing the right thing in chewing for ages (though not because he's frightened)

I would tell the school so they know he is taking longer to eat than usual and may need support for a while. Hopefully he will get back to normal soon.
