Parents evening next week and on the days in question my dh is on 12 hours shifts!

Well 12 hours and some more actually! :( So it looks like I will have to go on my own which is such a shame for dh. Its next tuesday wedsnesday and thursday. Next monday he's finishing at 4.20 and next Friday he has a rotared day off!!! Nothing I can do but a shame!

It has never bothered us if only one of us has been able to go.

You could think about making an appointment for a different day if you think you should both be there.

Why not ask if you can arrange to see the class teacher at some other time. We always have parents who can't make the evening offered and, as long as they don't expect me to hang around until 8pm every evening, I'm usually happy to arrange an alternative, try for Friday straight after school

You mean you get to go on your own? You don't have to drag 3 young DC with you? I'd love to get to on my own (Wistful sigh, only available appts left were when DH was at work).

My Dh has never been to parent sevening as he looks after hte 3 kids, but I do know that the school is very flexible and will see parents on other days if it's easier. It's worth asking.

Really? I just see it as something we should both do as my dad did even though he worked long hours too.

TBH my Dad never attended mine as he was always at work, so maybe that's why I don't really worry about DH not attending. I just go home and report back.

It is a shame when one parent can't make it but wanting to be there is the main thing.

If you do end up going on your own, OP, write stuff down - I always used to think I'd remember the important bits but always ended up forgetting nearly all of it

DH out of town three days per week so would miss the first option and I am due in hospital on the other day so it looks like just one of us will attend this time unless we rearrange. Probably go for me attending this time and if any issues were raised then I could ask for some time again with DH present but only if needed.

This has happened to me before. I just write a brief polite note to the teacher asking if he/she could see me on x date (give a couple of options) and apologising that my shifts mean that I cannot attend on the original date.

true that in primary school it is much easier to rearrange - only 1 teacher - secondary is a nightmare!
