Hi

DS(10) has come out of school saying he and some others had to do a writing test at school today. How much he could write in one minute, then a couple of them were sent to do a non verbal reasoning test. Any ideas what this is or is for. He is 4b English and level 5 maths.

How much he could write in one minute might be to see if he qualified for extra time in his SATS?

Does he have any handwriting issues?

Ah
That makes sense. He has a mild visual impairment. To date has always turned down large print. He is on SA+

Ha,ha - just found this - All requests for additional time must be submitted by 5pm on Monday 28 February 2011

So they're leaving it right to the last moment Grin

A3. The pupil has a free writing speed of 10 words or fewer per minute. A recognised test of writing speed should be carried out or a pupil should be asked to write for at least 10 minutes and the number of words written per minute calculated.

A5. There is a significant discrepancy between the pupil?s cognitive ability and their performance, shown by:
at least average verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, or quantitative scores alongside below average literacy scores (as per criterion A1) ? ?at least average? here refers to standardised scores of 90 or above, and ?below average? to a standardised score of below 85
