When will I find out if my ds gets a place at the school we put him down for?

I did the application on-line.
He is attending the school attached nursery and I only put that school on the application.
When do they announce placements and how will I be contacted?

If you are Surrey you will hear 1 March.

CarGirl · 19/02/2011 20:00

Was it your local school? It's just there's a bit of a shortage of reception places generally...............

SilveryMoon · 19/02/2011 20:08

Yes it is the local one. There are only 2 within walking distance and the one he is at now is the only one the cm delivers and collects from

If it is for a Surrey Primary school you will not find out until 11th April. Ist March is for secondary places.

OK I am going to jump right in, Why didn't you put any other choices in? Did your first choice school take all their applicants last year? And what are you going to do if you don't get a place?

SilveryMoon · 19/02/2011 20:48

Because I don't like the other school that is in the area.
The headteacher told me that they have never had a child in the nursery who then don't get a place at the school.......................

But if you don't put 2nd and third choices then you'll be down the bottom of the oile when they dish out places if you don't get your first choice and will end up being given a place at the school no one else wanted. I do wish people would read the instructions properly  Although in previous years it has been OK it might not this year.

SilveryMoon · 19/02/2011 20:53

VD You can keep the eye rolling to yourself.
Not helpful seeing as deadline has passed.
I asked when I would find out, and that has been answered thank you.
Not helpful

We were lucky this year, they decided that they would take 21 children for an intake of 20, knowing that some would leave soon as some children are forces, this was unprecedented and this year it will be likely they will have to turn people away.

COCKadoodledooo · 19/02/2011 21:10

We did the same as you (and although the school is our nearest, it's in a different county so technically out of catchment) and although it's a v popular school, ds1 got in no probs. 10 out of the 13 pupils they took in that year came from the preschool nextdoor.

I think we found out just after Easter.

SilveryMoon · 19/02/2011 21:11

Thanks COCK
Keeping my fingers crossed he gets in

SilveryMoon,

My fingers crossed for you. I'm sure if you live close you'll get a place

On the other hand, COCK, please do be careful about suggesting to anyone else that going to nursery there helps get a place-it doesn't. And there are often further away schools that you might still get into if the 'other'local doesn't fit, the whole point of the system is that you don't have to go to your local school, although living close makes it more likely.

Our local school's a mess, the two closest others are exceptional (including the one where DS goes to nursery) but were non-starters admissions wise, but we found four good school across town who had taken form where we were before.

All best to SilveryMoon.
