Trivial, but is it the principle that matters? - Authorised holiday

Hi all

As said in the title this is very very trivial and to be honest not really important to me but just wanted opinions as to whether I should point this out to the school or just leave it. I filled in a holiday form for our holiday (which is a timeshare so cannot be taken at another time before anyone says anything) which is in May. I got the form back yesterday saying it had all be authorised, but next to the dates of requested holiday someone had written in "10 days" (I'm guessing for the headteacher's benefit). The issue I have is that the two week holiday goes over the May half term so it's only actually 5 days of school that DD will be missing. Is it worth pointing out, or do I just say to myself "whatever" and enjoy the holiday?

I would just nip into the office and check that your holiday will not be recorded as 10 days. You might want some extra later in the year and you wouldn't want them to think you had already taken 10 days.

Helpfully point it out, you don't want to skew the school's stats as they have to report this kind of thing

Just pop in and mention it, probably they have just forgotten about half term. You couldn't be marked off on holiday for 10 days as the computer system knows when half term is.

It depends on any local agreements in place between a cluser of schools. Some schools do not authorise any holiday absence for what used to be called ' Annual Family Holiday'. It is at the Heads discretion as whether the holiday is authorised or not. Any attendance below 80% should be passed onto the Education Welfare Officer by the school. There is no legal entitlement to 10 days annual hoilday for parents, its just a guideline.

I think as a matter of principle, attendance records should reflect attendance.

In this case, it's worth sorting out now, as you might want some or all of the anomalous 5 days later in the year. And you can do this in a very low key, friendly way by popping in to see the relevant admin officer and "just checking" the half-term days haven't been counted.
