This is a term often banded about. I wonder of any teachers or parents can define what it means. Enlighten me please.

Life is a competition? What an unhealthy way to view life. I plan on doing Manu of the things you describe, amfibianna, but certainly not because I think life is a competition.

Manu? Many is what I meant. I prefer to view life as something which everyone has their part in, we can help each other succeed and commiserate if something goes wrong. I don't see us all as defined by terms like 'winner' or 'loser'.

Oops I see the whole "life is a competition" thing has already been discussed.

Washngo exactly, the pushy thing is driven by the idea of winners and losers, which makes people huger themselves and other people all the time

Asinine · 09/03/2011 14:05

Huger?? That was meant to be judge Blush

As a teacher I would describe a pushy parent as one who pushes their child beyond their natural abilities, and tries to push the teacher into doing this too, to the extent where it is detrimental to the well-being of the child.

I think if I said out loud how I feel about my son and what my expectations are for him I would be seen by the other mums as pushy and a bit up myself. So I don't say anything ....which I think is sad because he is a very bright little boy who excels both academically and it sports and there are times that I want to shout from the rooftops how proud I am of him - but know it will be seen as bragging.
