I am looking for some advice on whether I should send my son to Our lady of muswell or rhodes avenue nursery. He has a placement at our lady of muswell but I have been told today that he has a place at Rhodes. Rhodes is more convenient with a 22 month old and a baby due on the 18th sept but would like to send him to the one I get good reviews from. It is so hard to make this choice by just visiting the nurseries and would really like some advice. please help?

Are you likely to get a reception place at Rhodes? Their "catchment" for nursery places is larger than their "catchment" for reception. Haringey primary admissions can tell you the "catchment" areas for previous years. I don't know about the nurseries, but Rhodes has a reputation for being more academic and extending its more able students - streaming in years 5 & 6 with specialist teachers, etc. I have heard a few grumbles from Our Lady parents about lack of stretching of more able pupils but that could also be middle class moaning! Whatever you decide, both schools are great and I am sure your DS will thrive at either.

I would say go with the one he is likely to go to reception at.

Bear in mind Rhodes becomes 3 form entry in 2011 - more likely to get a place but do you want a 3 form entry school.

Also the rebuild has started at Rhodes - the old Nursery block has been demolished and Nursery are going in the playcentre temporarily. You might want to go and have a look!

Thanks WoodRose and GypsyMay. I had a look at the temporary nursery yesterday which is at the after school club and it looked fine. It also had a little outside space with a wooden pirate ship that my DC has often brought up in conversation since. I was eager to get him into Rhodes but now I feel an obligation to our lady of muswell as we also had their home visit yesterday. Decisions Decisions!
