Just what do you say to your child when she tells you she tries to join a game in the playground with two of her friends and the third one says " oh sorry this is a game for just three people" And how to friends are intimidated by girl three and say nothing. How do you overcome this insurmountable obstacle. Needless to stay my girl is completely miserable. I know she must sort this out for herself where does she start?

I would report it to the school. Exclusion is a form of bullying and the school have a duty to deal with it.

What was the game? Is it possible it was only for 3? (can’t think what that might be, tbh, but our kids are adults now).
I think the only thing you can do is have a word with their class teacher.

I had this nonsense with my daughter. I just encouraged her to find new friends.

My DD went through this. Encourage her to play with other children. My DD did eventually make new friends and leave behind the ones who excluded her. It's painful for you and her while it's happening though.

Thanks for advice and support. While I was feeling helpless, my daughter took her own action. One of the things I said last night was that maybe the girl who wouldn't let her play wasn't having a very happy time herself. So maybe that's why she wasn't being nice. DD said she thought I was right so today she invited her for a play date -and the girl was delighted. All four of them played together and areplanning on taking part together in the class Christmas talent contest. Fingers crossed!
