Sexism

Today we were driving home and my partner a high school teacher , tutted as he saw a group of girls from another school to his who were with I guess their mums - I'm like why tut

He went on to say they should be teaching their girls to wear their uniforms properly rather than skirts half way up their backsides - I was really shocked , especially as we've a pre teen DS who heard his dads remark. He also said so much time is spent at school from make and female teachers on this very issue and it wasted their day - especially in summer.

I was like why do girls have to change, isn't the issue men and misogyny in general and let's teach it all from a different perspective , maybe the girls need to dress appropriately but the issue is male power and sexualisation of this type of thing

He thought I was being a ridiculous feminist - and said how would I feel is our DD went out like that at their age, she's still pre school. I was like I already have to worry about putting shorts under her dresses...I know I have to , but isn't it a sad world.

AIBU in thinking his comments were sexist and misplaced or am I being a ridiculous feminist ?

I read the comment in a ‘why can’t their parents tell them to pull their skirts/dresses down, so that us teachers don’t need too’ more than anything else tbh. I don’t see the sexism in it but I’m sure someone will educate me soon enough

Yes he totally meant it in that way - but I don't know u read this today and got me thinking wider about how teachers tackle it

School uniform for girls is often inappropriate tbh. he is right. Actually would be solved by putting girls in trousers and shorts instead of skirts anyway as a standard thing.

This has been going on since forever. Girls rolling up their skirts for attention, then that attention gets too much, or wrong kind. I'm all for girls in trousers or shorts.
