So it's happened! Teen needs period swimwear as can't wear a tampon, do this work and can anyone recommend.

Also realised we need to consider if we need to do anything, she's grown a lot of pubic hair downstairs and her costume is showing 🙈.. would you look to buy a boy short brief or what?!! What do other mums do 😂🙈🙈🙈

My DD prefers a wet suit or swim suit with men's trunks over the top. When she was competitive swimming she liked Maru leg suits

In terms of discussing hair removal with her I discus choices and showed her how to use different methods safely.
She knows generally the norm is to remove it from view in the UK but also that it's her body and her choice and I leave it up to her. I assume she prefers not to as she rarely does her under arms or legs.

I think it's a discussion you need to have with her.
Does she want to persevere with tampons? Does she want to try a menstrual cup?
She must be aware that her pubic hair is showing and at 13 I would have thought she would know what her options are (leave it, tidy it up, wear longer cut swim suit).

Where is she swimming? School/club or is this for a holiday?

Why all the laughing and covering eyes emojis? There's nothing to be embarrassed about.

My daughter uses the modibodi swimwear. She goes for the racerback one piece and then wears quick dry shorts over for modesty/not wanting to shave at 12! Never had a leak or problem. I do notice that modibodi make 'short' style bikini bottoms and athletic bottoms though as well. Good luck!

Give her options, let her choose.

Why cant she use tampons? They’re very easy and available “teen sized”.

My DD uses period bikini bottoms underneath a one piece swimsuit (it could be worn alone with any black bikini top but she just prefers a one piece for swimming lessons).
Works great for her, she is quite keen on swimming and they have been fine for hour long swim sessions, never any leaking!
You could try this with boy shorts type bikini bottoms over the top, or shop around for a "shorts" style.

Ah thanks, she won't use tampons, doesn't like them

I think it's best to ask her what options she would want to explore. Choosing the best period products and whether or not she wants to shave down there should be a personal decision.

There are teen friendly tips on safe hair removal and period product breakdowns on We Are Luna. I prefer this over dd 14 potentially coming across unreliable info online and learning from the same viral videos that teach you how to "naturally" stop your period... She actually sent me an article from the app about Wuka swimwear and have since gotten those for her. Highly recommend their period pants, she really likes them and they’re totally age appropriate x

Oh yes, we've been there too, welcome to the next chapter! Period swimwear can definitely work, especially if tampons aren’t an option. Modibodi, WUKA, all do some reliable ones, and they just look like normal swimwear, which is a bonus.

And the costume dilemma totally relatable! We went and picked up some cool boardshorts to wear over her period swimming pants. I think this gave her added confidence anyway with periods, swimming and potential leaks.

You're not alone in this at all, these moments creep up and suddenly you're navigating a whole new world. You just want them to feel confident and happy and you're trying to do your best for them, we all are!
