Phone language

I feel that I am pretty strict with my 11 year old boys phone use (also have a 14 yo girl). He got the phone in the summer and started secondary last month.

He knows that a condition of the phone is that I may check it, there are time restrictions and it's handed in before bed.

But I really dislike the way son and friends talk to each other and the names friends call each other. It reads to me that they dislike each other. Is it me looking at it with adult eyes or is it normal progress as they enter teen years?

I have blocked a few groups and friends and explained that I wasn't happy with the language and how they were all talking to each other and he agrees but it just carries on.

This evening I read some messages and he asked a friend "can I call you covk boy?" I just blocked the friend as I don't like it.

But what is normal? I remember my brother and his friends being like that but obviously without the phones. Feel a bit out of touch with boy behavior. My daughter never talked like this. Any ideas/thoughts?

Teenage boys have some crazy banter and call each other all sorts of things most of it I don't really understand but having seen my 14 year old sons phone he says its not done in a nasty way

Yeah that's kind of what he says. But it's hard reading it

And thanks for a measured response!
