Bras

DD is 11 and growing up quicker than I'd like but not much I can do! She wore crop tops for a while then moved onto some bralettes. She's never been measured and doesn't want to be. She's now wearing some sports bras but they're a 'small' size so not properly fitted. She seems happy with these but I have said to her that she can measure herself if she wants me to buy her anything different and explained to her how to do this ( we have tape at home). She is quite shy with talking about her body and hasn't measured herself, or if she has she hasn't told me. At the risk of asking a stupid question, should I just leave her as she is if she seems happy? I've seen lots of posters on here answering similar questions insisting that bras are overrated and girls don't really need to be measured. I suppose because I was measured in a shop and would get measured regularly when I was growing up that I feel like she should be doing the same. Just to add though that I've very much left her to decide what is best for her and not pressured her at all. Any advice is welcome!

My DD is extremely shy and private about these things and the only way she will talk about things is by text. She has recently started her periods and all communication about those has to be by text, eg me reminding her she might be due on, her asking for painkillers etc, me checking that she’s coping ok when she does have it.

I was recently in your position too, wondering about bras. I texted her about that too, I asked her if she was still happy in her crop tops or if she would like to try some proper bras because she’s just turned 13 and I thought it might be time to look at some proper ones. I sent her a screenshot of instructions about how to measure herself if she wanted to and told her that she just needed to text me the 2 measurements and I’d order some bras for her to try. I didn’t expect her to want to measure herself and get some and I was sure she’d just want to carry on as she was, but she did send me the measurements so I ordered a few and she’s wearing them all the time now.

Would that approach by text maybe work for your DD too?

Thanks for the response. My DD is similar in that I usually find it easier to communicate by text or notes. I did the same as you and gave her instructions of how to measure but she hasn't got back to me about it and seems happy in the sports bras for now.

Would she let you look at the fit instead of measuring?
Proper bra shops don't use measuring tapes, they just look at the fit.

I think she'd be too self conscious to let me check.
