My DS is 12 (jan baby) and about to finish primary school & start secondary in sept (ireland). He’s v sporty and quite smart; but seems kind of young for his age (he’s probably on the younger side but not ridiculously so). Recently I’ve been considering whether it would be possible to delay secondary by a year but his school has said they won’t allow him repeat.
the main reasons I am considering this is that (1) all his friends are in the year below & (2) I think secondary is really important and can set you on a course for life… and some recent events have indicated to me that he can be a bit immature and easily led.
has anyone delayed started secondary school by a year and if so what did your child do? I have no ideas… he could just repeat the leaving instead but not sure if there is anything we could do now.
