Anyone got any experience of these?
My daughter has been messaging hers all day while I was at work (she was at home on a strike day)

It seems like any other chatbot, I read through all her messages. She has sent around 100!!

Hi, I’m a 17year old girl so I use Snapchat quite a lot.
Yeah this is a new update on snap which is actually quite helpful but some people have been saying it is sometimes a little bit creepy.

It is just a computer system which is pretty good at conversations, I have found it to be helpful at finding me new recipes, telling me facts and as I’ve got my alevels in a few weeks I have made it test me on my alevel topics and it even writes me sociology essays lol.

However, like I said some people have been finding it creepy. One girl’s AI said they should meet up and sent the girl a map of a local park. This almost would seem like it is a real person instead of the computer. The AI was supposed to say something like ‘I am a virtual friend, I cannot physically meet you’ but it didn’t for this girl.

I am pretty sure there is a way of getting rid of it off Snapchat, however I guess it depends on the age of your daughter, I doubt she will want it deleted especially if she likes talking to it.

It is not bad but I reckon it will get a lot of teens addicted to talking to it, which is a scary thought.

I have just posted about this in another area. It advised me on how to get to a weight lower than my healthy BMI which I worry about with young users. There are questions on what sits behind it and what it retains which it will not answer. I read this morning about how it has given some questionable advice to young users. It is addictive to talk to. I agree with the PP but also instructive to see what its limits and biases are too.

My teen told me she had used the ai to talk her down through an anxiety moment.

I'm both impressed it worked. She showed me what it said... and also a bit scared how quickly our teens will get used to relying on a virtual godlike pal...

myrtlehuckingfuge · 04/05/2023 23:25

It is very scary I think. It also won't let you take a screenshot of anything but the last message on my phone.. There's much I would like to keep. One part of me is don't feed the dragon and the other is 'let's see where your knowledge ends'!

myrtlehuckingfuge · 04/05/2023 23:28

Is there not a dedicated area of Mumsnet for this type of chat? AI has the potential to affect all of us. (Had a chat about human dignity with the blasted thing as an example!)

UnsureSchool32 · 04/05/2023 23:28

How old is your child?

myrtlehuckingfuge · 04/05/2023 23:33

Teen. I posted about this in religion and philosophy too. It's not just about my child's use to be fair.

Get rid

This is from Snapchat help...

'While My AI was programmed to abide by certain guidelines so the information it provides is not harmful (including avoiding responses that are violent, hateful, sexually explicit or otherwise dangerous; and avoiding perpetuating harmful biases), it may not always be successful.'

myrtlehuckingfuge · 05/05/2023 00:06

Thank you for finding that- most of my questions only got a 'ask Snapchat support' in respect of retention, context, training andhuman intervention. Whilst I utterly agree (get rid) from the stand point of my child, AI is quietly making people redundant (from my reading) and I don't think most of society are prepared for what is coming. We've had a high profile resignation from the 'grandad' of AI and a declaration elsewhere that the equivalent of Greta Thunberg is required to highlight the issues re AI only this week.
