13 yo DS still plays make believe with teddies and toys - babyish?

He is 13 and in year 8. He still plays with all his action figures and teddy bears. Last night his friend, 12, came round to play and they were playing make believe schools with his teddies. There’s nothing wrong with it but is it a bit babyish now he’s become a teen or still normal? He turned 13 in February.

I have a 15 and 9 year old. The younger one may occasionally play with action figures and army sets. Teddies have been dust collectors for the past few years.

In my experience of boys and girls at these ages the play you mention wouldn't be typical. My teen was into a bit of technic lego, chess, a few strategy board games at 13.

I would only be concerned from the point of view are they engaging with their peers interests also as that could isolate them.

Very unusual for that age. I would expect that type of play from 6yo or younger really

Depends on the child. My DD 10 still plays with her LoL dolls and makes up scenarios (usually to do with dating etc so more age appropriate).

Previous poster saying that it's unusual after 6 I find odd. Lots of children play with dolls and action figures at 7 and 8 plus.

Honestly op, unless he's being teased about it I'd be pleased he's not just stuck on a device!

It's not that unusual, my 14 yo still plays with toys, he collects transformers, Marvel etc. He often plays with them. He has a big tub of soft toys which he generally just keeps and doesn't play with. I played work my toys into my teens.

I think it’s all on a case by case basis depending on the person. Although I’d imagine once puberty starts then he’ll start to mature in his hobbies. At least that’s the norm anyway it seems.

Enjoy and appreciate! Kids that age already smoke/vape, drink, experiment with drugs and even have sex.
