Please can anyone advice..
My daughter is 11 and half. Always saying to be excited to be Preteen🙄
Anyway..
On the 5th of December she came back from school saying she felt sick most of the day, like her tummy hurt.
She started lighly bleeding, explained her everything about periods. Used the liliets teen pads
She was a bit shocked but got ok.
No more pain and this light bleed went on for about 8 -10days on and off and then stopped. It was a light bleeding, 2-3 pads were enough per a whole day.
Fast forward to this Monday 19th of December and she started bleeding again, this time more heavily seems like normal adult period, no pain though.
Now - today on day 4 she came down running & crying that it’s too much blood and crying that she hates it and doesn’t want to be pre teen anymore.
Her underwear is all covered in blood.
Is this normal to bleed like this even she bled for first time on the 5th for more than week?
When I think of my own start of period, I remember it came sort of regularly the first months, definitely not a twice like she has..

It can be very erratic and yes a very heavy flow when at a young age. They can also be incredibly painful when young. Your poor daughter. Help her find better pads and have hot water bottle, painkillers etc on standby. Explain to her that it will improve over time. Keep talking about it and reassure her. She will come to terms with it. It's a big thing to deal with at 11.

canyouextrapol · 22/12/2022 11:13

My daughter started at hers were all over the place. Really long and heavy with barely a gap in between. Period pants have helped her manage and she's had something acid, that she takes for first 3 days to shorten them

Lovesnowforever · 22/12/2022 14:16

@Bbq1 thank you.
I try to explain her every detail, she even has two books about it but still she feels it’s too much.
Even my best friend came around today and tried to reassure her, hopefully she feels a bit better now.
I am just worried as she was bleeding 2 weeks ago and it all started again this week, the gap between was about 5 days..

Yes. My first period was very light and then a couple of weeks later it was a blood bath. Very heavy, pain, clots etc.

I just put up with it until I went on the pill aged 19, but knowing what I know now I'd have made more of a fuss and seen the doctor when it didn't settle down. I used to have terrible trouble avoiding leaking at school.

Bbq1 · 22/12/2022 15:58

Aw, I feel for her, Op
I think it can be very difficult to come to terms with. At least we are open these days. My mum is 82 and her mum never told her about periods etc as they didn't back then. When my poor mum started her periods she seriously thought she was dying and told her older sister who thankfully explained it all to her.

mummatobeat33 · 22/12/2022 16:12

I was a bit older than your daughter when I started (13) but I did have about 9months of fortnightly bleeding. Heavy at times, sleeping on towels, horrific flooding when i had been stationery for a while. Went on the pill at 17. Came off the pill to ttc at 28 and was then diagnosed with endometriosis. Not sure if its related but please see the doctor if the flow is really heavy

QuestionableMouse · 22/12/2022 16:14

Grab her some period pants. I've just swapped and they're brilliant (and because a lot of them are dark it hides the blood a bit which might make her less anxious)

Tinselpipes · 22/12/2022 16:19

I don't know about frequency yet but my 11yo is currently on day 5 of her first period and I've been surprised how it's been a proper period from the outset...quite a moderate flow with clots. Going to get her some period pants to try for next time. It's so rotten for them at such a young age.

PritiPatelsMaker · 22/12/2022 19:30

Agree with everyone else, they might just take a while to settle down.

Some things that help my DD are:

Period Pants to help her deal with her period at school. We started with Modi Bodi.

Keeping fit.

A big bar of her favourite chocolate for her worst days.

Hot water bottle.

And at first, a good selection of different sanitary products to try, and a little bag with spares for her school bag.

BlueBellIris · 22/12/2022 19:35

Totally normal. Sadly girls are still taught periods come every 28 days. Last 5 days. Period pains won’t be too bad and they don’t lose that too much blood.

I recommend period pants - game changer.

I remember my Mum totally freaking me out the first time I had my period because I was still bleeding on day 6. She didn’t suggest we do anything like go to the doctor, but just went on “how strange it was”.

PercyPigs1 · 22/12/2022 20:45

I've just seen your post on my thread. Sorry to hear your daughter also struggling. The flow has started to ease today but she's had a terrible migraine and felt sick so laid on the sofa most of the day and went to bed early. I got her some always ultra nighttime pads and some period pants which arrived yesterday which have helped but not before a leak all over the new sofa Grin. My friend who is a GP said things can be very erratic in the beginning and advised ibuprofen to help with the cramps . I can't remember mine being like this so it's been a bit of a shock! Hope your daughters settle down soon

Lovesnowforever · 24/12/2022 06:59

The period is stil so heavy and seems getting heavier by each day!
This morning she run into my room at 5am saying her whole bed was soaked.
It was to the matrace.
I am seriously worried now. I never had a period like that in my life.
She is very skinny for her age, looks more like 9 yrs old than 11 yrs old.
I doesn’t seem getting lighter at all. On a top of we are going away today for 4 days.
I feel helpless.

Did has terrible periods. Soaks through 2x night pads stacked on top of each other, soaks through clothes, has soaked through clothes at school, runs to the bathroom in the morning with blood running down her legs and onto the floor, huge clots falling out of her. Doctors have always been very uninterested. She’s convinced she has endometriosis but the6 won’t refer her to a gynaecologist 🤷‍♀️

so what I mean is don’t worry about it yet even though it seems like a lot of blood as doctors don’t seem to worry. Hopefully over the next few months her cycle regulates and it gets lighter but if it stays heavy see a gp. Going on the pill might be an option just to help lighten the flow.

Do you mean there were some blood stains on the mattress or the blood was literally soaking the mattress.
If a few stains then that is normal for people with a heavy flow. If the other then I would phone a doctor today for advice but it is very likely just her body adapting to periods. I remember my daughter feeling very upset at her first few periods and being a bit dramatic. I even used to let her take a day off school each month when they were at their heaviest as she would be so upset but of course that had to change as she got older.

Magenta82 · 24/12/2022 07:16

Sounds awful and it sucks thst it is the wrong time of year for a doctors appointment.

I would look into getting her some period pants, more comfortable and more absorbant than pads.

Lovesnowforever · 24/12/2022 07:24

@Twiglets1 yes. The 2 bed sheets, her pants, PJs and pad all soaked through!
I never myself had anything like that myself in my 35 yrs of periods.
she is shaken and soaking through again after minutes.
It’s like uncontrollable bleeding.
She never had issue with any bleeds before like injury’s etc..
Its also day 6 and getting so heavy..

DD started at 10 yrs 10 mth earlier this year. Period pants have been amazing. I'd highly recommend investing in Modi Bodi heavy flow boy shorts. They are not cheap, but if you can afford them, well worth the investment.

So far- touch wood- dd has been ok with periods, after the initial shock. She knew about them, had some pads etc already. I remember having awful, heavy, erratic periods to start with. Feminax helped massively with the tummy cramps. A friend's daughter takes transemic acid to lighten them and norethisterone (prescription) to delay them.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 24/12/2022 08:06

Dd11 started in the summer & has had a real mix of frequency & heaviness. In Oct/Nov she had 2 2 weeks apart & then nothing for 7 weeks.
Agree with the period pants - she barely seems to notice apart from if tummy hurts/feels sick.
I think I'd want to speak to a doctor about that much bleeding though.

Lovesnowforever · 24/12/2022 08:13

@Drywhitefruitycidergin thank you. I would call dr today for advise but it’s a such bad time, Xmas and going away today later on.
I will see how it gets on when they open again on Wednesday, hopefully it will eases a bit.
I just worry that with kind of bleed she will get anemic soon, even she never any issues with healing wounds like scuffs, never had any excessive bleeds before..

yes, if she’s soaked through again so quickly it would probably be a good idea to get advice if you have an out of hours doctor, etc.

Lovesnowforever · 24/12/2022 08:45

Just ordered some Modi body pants.

Fab. They have made periods much easier to cope with for DD. I really hope you and you dd find a way of navigating periods, it's such a difficult thing at such a young age.

It won't be any comfort now, but I had awful heavy, painful periods as a teen, but menopause is symptomless.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/12/2022 09:01

@Lovesnowforever I'm sure you are doing this, but keep a diary of when she comes on, symptoms etc so you can pick up patterns, and have data about length/frequency if you end up speaking to doctors.

Lovesnowforever · 24/12/2022 09:03

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads yes she has app on the phone already..

Your poor DD, I started at 13 and my periods were erratic until my late teens. I remember crying to my mum in the early days as it can be quite frightening. I soaked through a lot, too. It sounds like you’re doing a grand job supporting your DD.
