How did period start?

My 10 year old had a tiny dot of blood on her underwear. Thought maybe she had scratched herself. 2 days later, there's a line of pale pink discharge, just once. That evening there's a small patch of light brown discharge. I seem to remember my first just appearing and red. Are there other reasons for having a bit of pink or brown discharge?! I did speak to a doctor who said it doesn't sound like snd infection as she doesn't have a fever or pain when urinating and to just wait and see if it is a period. But I'm a bit baffled and concerned. Anyone's daughter had this before their first period?

It just sounds like she's having a very light period. Nothing to worry about. Her body is just getting used to the idea of menstruation.

Is it likely it could be a period? Has she started puberty?

That sounds like a first period to me. It can be very light and not bright red to begin with. It may not be regular at first either.

My daughters first period was basically non existent. She was 10y8m. She's now 12y6m and they're still wildly irregular.
