9yo - spotting but no other signs of period

DD is very tall for her age (98th centile) and has had some spotting in her knickers today. Although she is so tall it has taken me by surprise as she doesn’t yet have breast buds or hair. Has this happened to anyone else and was it a one-off or the start of proper periods?

Just spotted the error in the title. It should say ‘no other signs of puberty’ - sorry.

I don’t think many 9 year olds have started puberty?

Not many, no, but I believe it’s considered at the early end of normal. From what I can gather it would be unusual for a girl to start her periods as the first sign which is why I am asking.

As you say, it would be odd to start periods without other signs of puberty first, that's more unusual than her age. If I were you, I'd get her checked by a doctor. It could just be hormonal fluctuations, but it could be an infection or injury. Worth having it checked to be on safe side.

It could be starting... I was 10 when my periods started and my sister was 9. My eldest daughter is 10 now and seems to be showing more signs than I did before it happened.
I think I am going to start buying bits to put in a toiletry bag for her next week so we are prepared.
