11 year old's friends using inappropriate apps

My 11 year old was at a friend's house last week with a few friends and one of them had the app omegle and they had some very inappropriate chats with people on it.

My child was upset by this and trusted me enough to tell me what had happened but is now begging me not to tell anyone else what had happened. What would you do, would you tell the other parents or leave it as they seem to allow any age rating computer games/films/apps etc.?

I told my child that I am really proud that he has told me what happened and that I am not cross with him. I worry if I tell the other parents he won't trust me again with anything that is worrying him but then I know I would like to know if it was my child who had downloaded the app.

I find other children have lots of apps mine is not allowed. It's hard, and frustrating that other parents allow/unaware of what these apps enable their child to be exposed too.

How well do you know the parents?

Depending on what the 'inappropriate' discussions were i might contact the school- although given it is holidays that is less of a practical option

They are between primary and secondary so don't feel it would be right to contact the school as they haven't actually started there yet!

I know the parents a bit but not very well. I hate confrontation so dread these sorts of situations.

I had similar and told the parents. They were very grateful. But I knew they would respond that way so easy decision I guess

Thanks. I think I need to tell them about it,I'm not too sure how to approach it though.

I am very liberal towards games and films, but chats with strangers online are very worrying. Obviously tell the parents. And make sure your kids are well instructed on stranger danger and online safety.

I did speak with the parents in the end to let them know what had happened and they were grateful that I told them.
