Advice needed

I am looking for some advice please.

I have an 11 year old son, he has a phone. Part of the agreement of having the phone, is that I have access to it, I know all passwords and regularly have access to his phone.

last night I came across some message on Snapchat between my son and his female friend of the same age. In the saved messages from what I can see, it looks as though they’ve sent some potentially inappropriate pictures to each other. Snapchat pictures were not saved but I reached my conclusion from the saved messages which I won’t go into detail about.

I am shocked and have not spoken to my son about this yet as I do not know how to approach it or what to say. So any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

I have, we decided to speak to him a couple of days ago. We explained the severity of the situation and told him that what they both done was wrong and illegal.

He has accepted and recognised that his behaviour was inappropriate. I have spoken to the other child's parent to make them aware of the situation also.

Snapchat and any other app that could be used to send pictures has been removed from his phone. The parental controls have now been put up to the absolute maximum, so anything he does alerts me on my own mobile.

I'm not entirely sure if I have given him punishment enough, but his reaction and actions after our talk were very positive and I believe that he understands how dangerous this situation could have potentially been.
