Teen period swimwear

Hi,

My 11 year old started her periods last month, typically if she follows a regular cycle it means she'll be on her period when we go to centre parcs in September Hmm
Does anyone have any recommendations on period swimwear or if there is a more one off suitable thing she can use! She definitely isn't wanting to use tampons!
Thanks

Just placemarking.

Modibod do bikini bottoms for ‘light’ flow, but they’re very expensive and not very fashionable looking!
If she’s only just started, she may well not have another period for a while, and will most certainly not be regular yet. Why do you not want her to use a tampon?

We have modibodi swim pants - sadly as yet untested in anywhere other than paddling pool (where they seemed to work).

I'd looked at the modibodi ones but yes expensive for maybe a one off and just in black. I'm hoping she's not that regular yet and skips it!
It's her who doesn't want to use tampons, we suspect she's is autistic and it took her a while to get used to the idea of pads at first so think she's doesn't like the idea of using them. I did get her some modi bodi pants but she just refused them so I sent them back and will order some more if she decides she'd like to try them. Think I'll try and find some of the cheaper Primark ones to have in but think they won't go small enough for her.

Modibodi for period pants in general (dd is 11 and hates pads but the pants have been a game changer). I also bought her the swimsuit which was half price.

DoTheNextRightThing · 05/08/2021 18:21

I don’t blame her for not wanting to use tampons. I'm neurotypical and hated the idea of them at 11 and still am not a fan of them now as an adult.

We have just bought a modibodi swimsuit, it was on offer at £27.50. My daughter has been using it this week and seems happy with it.

I remember going swimming having just started my periods at about that age. My periods were very light, are hers?

DM bought me tampons, and I went in the loo to put one in. I ended up in tears of frustration/embarrassment because I couldn't do it, despite trying for ages.

In the end I gave up and went in in just my costume. It was fine.

I wouldn't do it now, but tbh I can't see that a normal tight fitting swimming costume will let out any more that specialist period bikini bottoms. I suspect they're like swim nappies in that liquid wouldn't be contained?

Have you seen these in the modibodi sale? I've just bought a pair for DD.

Following, my dd had her first period on 2/7 and hasn’t had one since. If holidays are back next year for us I’ll look to get her some period bikini bottoms if she doesn’t want to try tampons.

No doubt we were all nervous when we first used tampons. Some KY jelly will help and soon she will wonder how she ever managed without them!

Littlemissmagnet · 01/09/2021 09:05

My DS is in a swim club and the girls there use modibody swimwear. I am so glad this is available as I wouldn't want them to give up because of periods like so many of my talented friends in the 90's I am so glad times have changed! I will be getting my DD some modi body stuff when she gets to this stage. Also I have so thankful and proud that teens today are rightfully less embarrassed about it all and own it for what it is! 🙂 (a win for us parents we must be doing something right ✅ 🙌 )

i know this is an old thread, but it’s on the same theme…. Every holiday I forget to buy period swimwear until it’s too late, and then forget to buy it when we are back from holiday! Gah. We go away on Friday and have just ordered Modibodi bikini bottoms.
In case they don’t arrive in time, can anyone tell me whether your standard period knickers will do the job? I bought DD some body form ones and they’re made of a lovely light material and assuming that what’s in the gusset is the same in the knickers as the swimming costume it should be fine, right?
