Quick question. Will requiring parent approval of purchases stop my child installing you tube without my PIN?

Yes. You need the PIN to then download any app or free game.

I have discovered that setting the age to young child meant he could install it You Tube but was blocked from using it

Ah excellent. I just started out with the parental controls on anyway, when you take them off they go back on again quite quickly, so you don't forget about it. I find the controls on the iPad so much harder to ensure they only have access to what I'm ok with.
