DD and friendship issues....

DD aged 11 started secondary school a few weeks ago. She seems to have lots of new friends and, generally, I'm really pleased for her.

Every day she makes Whatsapp films (memes?) which are usually images of her and her friends with huge emojis and doing silly things.

But the one I saw this morning said "Send me an emoji if you don't dislike me" and the other screens featured each of her friends and explanations of why my DD likes them so much.

Should I be concerned? Or should I keep my beak out and let her sort it out by herself.

She is an August birthday and finds the nuances of social behaviour tricky, compared to her older peers.

Any advice? I don't want her to be a needy person!

I have a DD the same age and this is the kind of thing they do all the time. I wouldn't read too much into it. Just be glad she's settling into school and making new friends.

oldgrinch that's interesting to know!

I have 2 older sons and things were different with them, a bit more straightforward.

I do have a tendency to get over involved in every aspect of their lives and I know I need to pull back.

When I was talking to my Dad about this he said that when he and his siblings were growing up, his parents took no interest whatsoever in their social lives.......a strange thought but maybe one that's a bit healthier for everyone!

I have a year 7 DD and agree this is totally normal.
