Nearly 10 year old had her first period?

Hello. My daughter will be 10 in October. She is quite tall 5'2" and is showing signs of puberty like breast development, body odour, armpit hair, pubic hair. Back in July she had some brown staining on her pants lasted three days or so. I put pantyliner to see the amount but it was just as I said staining. When she wiped it was light pink on toilet paper. Sorry for TMI. I couldn't be sure what it was so I took her to the GP. GP said it may be the first period but we can't know for sure. Nothing happened ever since. I need to know if it would count as her first period as she will have a spine surgery due to her scoliosis and her remaining growth prediction is quite important for timing the surgery. As I said she is tall compared to her peers and I cannot guess how tall she would be after her growth finished. After first period she can grow 4 inches or so I read but if I look on her red book growth chart she will be most likely taller than me. I am 5'8". My husband is shorter now my daughter is at same height with him. Was it her period or not and how tall she may end up is my question after all that? TIA xxx

Yes that sounds like it. From what I've read it can take months/years for them to regulate so not having another since is fine. My dd is going to start imminently I think, she's 9.

I thought that there was a rule that first period was two years after breast buds. Not sure if that’s a ‘scientific fact’ but that’s what I’m working towards.

Speak to the surgeon/consultant to clarify about the 'first period' and growth correlation?

I recall having one very light 'period' as you describe at 11/12 but didn't get another until 14 when they started properly.

If it helps I had my first around the same age but then a gap until the next one. I was v tall, 5ft 6 by age 11 or so and I stopped growing at 5ft 10
