My ss has no interests or hobbies. All he wants to do is sit in his room all day and night on his laptop. If its taken off him he jst constantly asks for it or goes outside for an hour then comes back saying hes bored.
I dont know what to do. At that age i was out with my friends as much as i could be.
His best friend at school is also on his laptop 24/7 so that doesnt help.

Well you need to enforce rules of how much he’s allowed on it. If he doesn’t have friends/hobbies then you can try and encourage this. Some kids are just not good at entertaining themselves.

Mine are the same!

I have tried to encourage it jst falls on deaf ears. First time having an older child live with me so i dont know whats normal for kids these days. Clearly his friends parents let there child on the laptop all day long. I just dont know whats reasonable without being the evil step mum

What does his dad think?

Of course SS wants to sit and stare at a screen all day but he needs balance in his life.

Set a daily limit? Plan days out so he can't access it?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/08/2019 08:51

Is is DF making sure he gets enough sleep at night so the laptop is taken away at a reasonable hour?

Mumtobeagain1 · 26/08/2019 09:14

Yes ofcourse he has a reasonable bedtime. This is about how he wants to spend his free time when we are not doing things as a family. After school, after tea and weekends when we are not going out as a family.

We have a no screen rule at all during the week with the exception of phones to and from school.

Weekends we are pretty relaxed but I’ve recently clamped down on that too. So it’s a few hours Saturday and Sunday. Which is pretty generous I think. But honestly as he is your step child I’d leave it to his parents to decide.
