Backpack recommendations for DS starting Yr 7

Just that really! He needs a new school bag. I'm thinking a backpack will be best but haven't a clue about which brands are popular right now. Where's best to shop for them too?

It probably depends on the school - my older DS has no interest in brands, and started off with a Nike rucksack. Several years later he's just bought a fairly sturdy proper rucksack from sports direct.

Youngest will do the same. Sports direct has a pretty good range, quite cheap. DS gets through at least one a year, but he does have form for breaking everything...

Brands like Hype or Vans seem to be popular.

Adidas, superdry or hype at our school. One with lots of pockets is helpful for keeping regularly used bits (pencil case/phone/diary etc) handy. Needs to be big enough to hold books and pe kit

I've seen Hype ones online but they look a bit small? Any high street shops sell them?

JD sports sell hype bags. They're not huge. DS had a slazenger bag from sports direct in year 7

If he's not interested in brands enough to know what is cool just buy him a cheap one to start with. You can get some really cheap, functional ones from places like Sports Direct.

If he becomes cool by Christmas then his present is sorted!

My observation of kids walking from my boys' secondary is that few boys in the lower years have cool backpacks. Some have football team bags. Plenty of the girls do though!

Thanks. Will brave the hell that is Sports Direct tomorrow! DS is not very brand aware other than liking Nike running gear.

I feel your pain. I have to brave sports direct tomorrow as well. Good luck!

In the end we had a look in TK Maxx before SD and DS chose a bag from there. No idea what brand it is but it looks great for school - right size and a fair few pockets too. Still had to brave SD for footie socks and shin pads though and picked up a really nice Nike PE bag which I'd quite like for myself!! Thanks for all the suggestions.

If he’s anything like mine a carrier bag would do as he’ll be down to half a biro in his blazer pocket by the end of the first week anyway Grin
