What to do about leg hair?

My DD is 9 and has very hairy legs, although they are blonde you can really see them. I'm started to think in the next few years, other girls will pick up on it and start to call her name's, I obviously don't want to do anything yet, I want to leave until she mentions it to me.
I don't want her to start shaving her legs, but what other options do I have apart from shaving and waxing?

What's wrong with shaving? My dd has shaved a few times but it's currently rocking the hairy legs look. She is 14

My daughter is 10 and has very hairy legs. She has always been upset about her legs and she started being really self conscious but this got worse after she was bullied about her legs. She now uses an electric shaver about once a month and she’s now a changed girl. She’s really happy and her confidence has grown enormously.

And why wouidn't you want her to shave?

When/if she wants to start depilating, she will,also decide her own preference for method. I think the best thing to do is let her get on with it. I know it seems very young, but age of puberty has been creeping younger, and society is more gender-stereotyped than it was when I were a lass, so yes levels of self-consciousness and the urge to do something about body hair happens much earlier than it used to.

I just don't want her to have to keep shaving every couple of days - like I have to! Then have black bristles instead 😫

I can't believe you'd even consider getting rid of the hairs on your daughter's legs. She's 9! A child. Wait until she's at least a teenager. My 7yr old granddaughter had blonde hairs on her legs - so what? It's normal.

My dd (8) has really long blonde hair that glitters in the sun. She's mentioned that her so called friends have pointed it out... and also wondered out loud if scissors would work on themShock
I'm going to try and get her to wait as long as she can but I imagine ill let her use a lady shave in the summer term of yr 5.

I work in a school and I know how cruel children are, if she had just abit of leg hair it wouldn't be a problem. I am just getting prepared for when she does ask to remove it. There's nothing wrong with thinking of your child's welfare!

I only shave legs/pits weekly. Dd shaves sporadically

@Lynne1Cat - if your granddaughter wants to remove her leg hair, do you think you have the right to tell her what to do with her body? Is it your right to impose a particular age for the suitability of fair removal?

Not to be goady, but it makes me so sad when women and girls are told how to look - whether it's hair removal, remaining hairy, or whatever. Their body, their choice.

Epilating? No bristles and the hair can grow back finer over time. Also easier to do small bits at a time, so easier for you to control and not as painful as waxing.

When she asks to give her all the options of what she can use to remove the hair, let her try the ones she interested in and she can decide what is easiest/most comfortable for her.
Both of my dds who are 11 and 22 switched to epilating a few months ago

If it’s fine hair use a pumice Stone It remove downy leg hair

Hi OP, I am wondering about exactly the same issue for my tall 9yo DD who is asking me why her legs and arms are so hairy.

Does anyone know if the leg hair will thin out for awhile? Is it a hormone spurt at 9 that settles down for a few years? Or is this the beginning of puberty for her?

I don't think a pumice stone would work for my DD - there's too much hair and it's too long.

She's fortunate that it's golden and fair, and in my view quite pretty. But she seems to be self-conscious because there's just so much on her legs and arms.

I hope she can just accept it for several years - what a hassle for her to start shaving or equivalent at 9.
