Social media for 10 year old?

My 10 year old daughter wants some way of keeping in touch with friends at school who she won't see again as we're moving away. Someone recommended Instagram or Facebook but I don't think her friends will be on FB and I've never used Instagram but have heard mixed reviews about it so still not sure I want to take the risk.
Can anyone recommend something safe and appropriate? She has a bog standard tablet so something that will work on anything would be good.

The law says children under 13 shouldn’t use SM - that’s FB, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp.

Personally I think 10 is too young for a phone. If she has to have one can she ring (god forbid) it text?

I know I’m going to come over a terribly old fashioned, but if she was mine I’d encourage her to write letters. I’ve got a 10 yo and there is no was she is having social media until she’s at least 13.
