Max growth height after getting period

Hi All,

Saw some posts from 2013 about kids and their heights at time of getting period. Wondering in 2017 what height your daughters ended up at? After starting their period, how much more did they grow?

I'm in a similar case right now, daughter who is almost 10 got her period and is 4'11". Worried about how much taller she will be, hoping she reaches 5'4" (docs are saying 5'2" or 5'3").

Thanks!

Wow, what a shame, only 9yo. But 4'11" is very tall for 9yo, too.

I think I grew about 4" after I got first period. So 5'3" sounds plausible. I wonder if the younger they start the more they can still grow -- I was 12yo.

Just to say Im only 4ft 10 and it hasn't held me back at all...well apart from reaching things on the top shelf of the supermarket!

I got my first period at 11 but I didn't grow anymore after that.

My 11 year old is 5 foot and just started hers . I'm only 5 feet tall and hoping she'll be a few inches taller as it's a nightmare buying clothes at this size

I am curious about the link between periods and height.

My nieces are all still growing (well, the oldest has stopped now) and I am pretty sure they all started around 11/12

What is the link supposed to be?

I got mine at 12yo, I'm 5'1 and didn't grow any more after that. I don't mind being short, except in crowds or at gigs, at supermarkets there's usually a friendly tall person that will get things down off the top shelf for me!

DD hasn’t started hers yet and I’m hoping she won’t for a while as she’s only 4’7”. Just wanted to say that I started mine at 12 and didn’t grow anymore. I’m 5’ and I don’t think it’s done me any harm Xmas Smile

DD started at 13 and 5ft 5. She is now 14 and 5ft 7.

I'm 5ft 9 so wouldn't be surprised if she keeps growing.

My DD started her period at age 12

She has probably only grown another 2-3 inches since then (is now 15 so unlikely to grow any more)

I didn't start my period til I was almost 14 and don't think I grew any more in height after that

DD and I are same height (5'8" ish) so I would assume that if you start your period younger then you have more chance of carrying on growing in height for a bit longer but I think an extra 5" is probably unrealistic

The growth plates fuse only a couple of years after periods start so early starter tend to be smaller with only a couple more inches ti grow. It was certainly true with mine and DD's friends. We were the early ones.

Want to ask advice on this for a long time. How do you deal with it when people make fun out of your small size and height. I find it very annoying whenever people do it to me. Now I worry my daughter has to deal with too. I m only 5f 2.5in. I don’t have a problem with my height but I hate it when people constantly point it out. I think there should be a body image campaign about height as much as weight and skinniness.Angry

I started at 13 and at 5 feet 2. I grew two and a half inches more but slowly. Amongst my own friends the earlier starters are shorter on average, but had been tall for their age at the time of starting.

I started my period at 11 and don't think I grew much after. I'm 5ft2. Can't say I've ever really had many comments about me being short...I like being a shortie though except when buying jeans

I have a tall DD. She hated being 5ft 8" and was so relieved to get her period two years ago at 13. She has recently grown another two inches (to her horror). I think she's gorgeous but she wants to be small and cute like her friends. Can't please them all!

DD was already 5’ 6” when she got hers just before her 12th birthday and she stopped growing within a year at 5’ 9”

But how would you deal with it when or if it happens to you?

@ishy12 Can you post the update... How much did your daughter grow? I am also in the same boat.
