9 year old D - first bras

Our nine year old has "buds" she wars crop vests at the moment, when should we think about trainer bras/bras and what do we need to do?

You don't need to do anything. She's 9. Pop her in a vest or something for a few years.

Flora I had breast buds at about 10 and a vest just wasn't going to cut it anymore (ended up with delightful 36GG tits that went up to 36MMs when breastfeeding). In the bud stage I used to get very bad joggers nipple and they'd bleed, so my Mum took me to get a trainer bra- as I recall from M and S- that was the shape and layout of a bra but obviously not underwired etc and the thicker material shielded my nipples from chaffage. Something like that seems sensible. I'm sure you could find something online these days.

Thank you. I have no wish for my children to grow up too quickly, I just want to donthe right thing for her. She does dancing and horse riding. So hopefully will be better protection x

I second the advice given above, breast buds rub and can be painful, no reason for you DD not to wear a soft bra if that's what her body needs. I needed one by 10

We got soft cup bras from John Lewis, back sizes were 28 - 34, cups AA and A. Quite plain with a tiny pink bow in the centre. We just tried them on in the changing room to check fit. This was 6 weeks ago, DD is nearly 10.

M&S has a first bras range that starts at a 28a, and it includes some sports bras so might be good for your DD?

Flora that's a ridiculous response! Just because she's 9 she should wear a vest for a few years?? Dd has been in a bra since she was 9, she's 10 now and a 26D.

I bought my dd her first bra the other day. 2 for £5 at primark.

M&S have 28 AA but they are in the children's department - the actual bra section starts at an A cup. My 11 year old has 28 AAs and is at a similar stage of development. She had crop tops previously but now she actually has something (though not much) there she is happier with the little bras which are very soft and a bit thicker than a crop op so make her feel more protected and secure, especially on PE days.

DD stayed in crop tops until she started getting a bit of shape to her breasts which was a few months after the buds came through. Then we put her in the angel soft cup M&S bras as they had the smallest sizes. Now she has more shape and is about to start secondary she is in the molded cup angel bras but still no underwire.

My DD has been in crop tops(at her request) but she's starting high school and needs a bra now. Did you measure them yourselves?

I started growing breasts at 9. Like Flora my mum thought l could just wear vests, and didn't need a bra.

I ended up with droopy boobs because of this, and they used to hurt when they rubbed against my vest.

whywont DD measured herself but actually needed a smaller rib size (or whatever the right word for the number part of the measurement is) than the tape measure indicated - she took lots of bras into the changing room and tried them on to find the right size. We then had to in store order more as they only had 2 (they are sold in 2s) in her size and she wanted several.
