What to wear?

My 11 year old boy has a Grade 1 music exam, and soon after a visit to a London West End theatre show with his whole class from school.Went out to buy a suit with tie an all,son seemed worried he would be 'over the top'. What should he wear for these events? Thanks for any advice x

My dc have always come out of school for the hour or so it takes to travel, do the exam, and travel back, so have always been wearing their school uniform, except for one which must have fallen in the school holidays or on a training day, and they just wore their jeans or whatever were wearing that day. It's not a visual performance, they should just wear what they are comfortable in, for the exam.
The theatre trip will depend how it is arranged - if it's a trip from school (which I'm guessing it is as he's 11, not 16) then I guess they'd wear their uniform again. Older dc who might meet at the theatre in the evening, would generally just wear whatever they would normally wear to the theatre - generally jeans and a smartish shirt.

I'm with your son - neither of these require a suit, IMO

You can wear any old thing to the theatre and a music exam.

Suit and tie not needed! Whatever he is most comfortable in, or school uniform if that it was school wants for theatre trip.
