need some extra advice as my mum can't remember what she told me about periods
My DD showed signs she was ready back in Nov only lasted a few days very light and Sunday there was her first period
I've told her all I know but looking for extra advice to pass on etc
She was heavy to start with now looks like it's coming to a end
How long does your first period last for?
Thanks for advice X X

Dd's lasted over a week the first time. They could be irregular for a few months and some may get missed. I bought a selection of pads/night pads and also got the lillets starter pack from the supermarket as it came in a zippy bag so is good for taking pads/spare pants to school. She found the lillets teen pads a bit short so uses normal sized ones instead

My DD's lasted 2 days the first time. I also second the lil let's bag and also they gave videos to watch about it on their YouTube channel. Smile

Periods vary so much between people that I'm not sure that asking for individual experiences is actually going to give you something worthwhile to say to your DD.

How old is she? What have you told her so far? And did you give her any (of the many) books on this subject?

I didn't use books. Just chatted about it. There is a little booklet in the lillets starter pack bag that I left with Dd. I am sure she is savvy enough to ask me or google if she is unsure.

DD will be starting soon. Things I intend to get:

A little diary or calendar to help her track them
Diary doll or similar period pants so she doesn't have to worry about leaking at school
Bed mats or similar so she can sleep without worrying about staining the sheets.
Heat pads/hot water bottle if she needs them,
Pain killers if she needs them and advice on how/when to take them.
Stain advice (cold water, no need to be embarrassed etc)
A little bag she can keep pads, spare pants, pain killers etc in when at school

Wandering Depending on how soon is 'soon' I would suggest a little bag already for school (without the pain killers) so she is prepared. Either in PE kit bag if that lives at school, or in school bag.

mitsi31 I literally cant recommend the First Period Box by Sanitary Owl enough!! www.sanitaryowl.com/first-period-box (seriously I shld get commmission. I use its subscription service and LOVE it, esp the choccy).

Its got those Diary Doll pants in, plus whole range of tamps and pads, applicator and no applicator and organic. Its got a travel wallet and another bag to keep them in at home.
Its got book for advice and shed loads of positive language which is such a relief as all I got when I started mine was SHSHHH!! No painkillers but fair enough as I wouldn't want mine having access to that at that age.

So good and made that chat a LOT easier.
