Christening what a 10yr tomboy should wear..????

My dd is a complete tomboy won't wear a dress or skirt or anything remotely formal. We have my brother's baby's christening coming up and I am wondering what she can wear...any thoughts? I don't want to insist she wears anything girly, but I do need her to wear something nicer than a pair of denim shorts and a polo top. Does anyone have any suggestions wear to find smart trousers or what to suggest....she has said she would consider a playsuit at a stretch, I wondered if there were smart versions. Any advice would be greatly received!

Would she wear white or coloured/patterned cotton shorts and a coordinating blouse/shirt?

BitterChocolate · 08/08/2015 13:34

White Bermuda shorts from Next for instance.

Chino shorts and a smarter top sounds fine to me. It's just about looking like you've made a bit of an effort, right?

Coloured skinny jeans and a smartish top with a Peter Pan collar?

This, in bucket loads.

Quite a few boys' shirts would work well for a tomboy girl, like this one

butteredbarmbrack · 08/08/2015 13:49

Could try leggings with a long top. Looks smart but not too frilly, and you can go for monochrome or navy, no need for pink, sparkles, flowers and the like! Next girl's range at the moment seems to have a fair amount of not-too-girly stuff.

DD1 is the complete tomboy and has just worn this outfit from Next for a 70th birthday party. She looked great and was very comfortable.

CaptainHolt · 12/08/2015 22:22

Lot's of Next boys formal wear is pretty gender neutral. Ditto River Island. I have quite a few things from River Island boys and tbh you can hardly tell the gender of the models on the 'boys occasion wear' bit of the website.

My similar dsd wore patterned trousers and a plain top to a christening recently, she looked smart but still felt comfortable.

My daughter is a similar 11 year old and we got this from next www.next.co.uk/x6d2562s2# which is lovely, smart but not too girly - its very soft and can be split to wear with different tops and shorts too.
