Would you say/do anything?

DD (year 7) has a volatile relationship with a friend - part of a threesome since primary, she's trying to move away from it a bit, anyway.

Today dd told me that after a bit of a tiff about who was the biggest poser, this girl leaned into Dd's face and told her to "fuck off".

I have a track record of not getting involved with these sort of problems (preferring to encourage dd to stand up for herself) and as such dd left primary stronger but also feeling a bit like I never stood up for her...so my perspective is possibly skewed.

Would you do/say anything about this incident? Dd doesn't seem bothered.

difficult one...have you asked her of she wants you to get involved?

I live in a different country so the culture is different, but I'm often shocked by the language that my 12 year old DD reports the kids use to each other. I think that you should not get involved, let DD decide for herself if she wants to continue to associate with someone who treats her like that.

if your dd can deal with it then that's great, if it affects her school work or happiness and they deteriorate then I would call the school and ask that they keep an eye on her especially if the girl is swearing, swearing should not be tolerated and it certainly wouldn't or bullying in my dd's school.

Have you asked her if she wants you to help? even if she doesn't it's worth calling her school.

I've had to do the same as my dd has just started yr 7 and she has a girl there that is always criticising her and having a go, I told her to either speak to her and ask that she doesn't do it or just ignore her.

I have called the school as dd says she doesn't want to go to school, they take a very serious view on this for obviously reasons and will do what they can to keep an eye and also to encourage her to make friends and feel more settled.
