How have you advanced the education of your dc over the Xmas holidays?

Mine can sing the theme tune from TBBT. February half term will see them learning the other verses without googling barenaked ladies and Big Bang.

Seeing much chocolate you can eat before you feel sick.

Minecraft power rails mastery for ds.
Slip knot for dd
Cutting 6 teeth for baby ds.

God yeah.
We've done lounging, sitting, faffing and eating too much. She's going to do well in those topics next term.

My son learned the evils of alcohol when a teen friend stayed and was sick for 24 hours after stealing beer and cider. They both learned tolerance from a visiting, and very trying, relative (and the importance of manners etc).

DD has got the hang of the sky buttons, accessing films recorded for her viewing pleasure Handy when her DM is struggling to get up out if her pit

DS1:
German grammar (as requested by the school as he was very behind).
Onesie wearing.
Has also watched both Hobbit films and LOTR.

DS2:
Can now play Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty on the clarinet.
Ate too many sweets.
Has bred some zombie chickens (or something) in Minecraft.

DD:
Read all 13 books in the Series of Unfortunate Events.
Made a (huge) mess.
Created various stretchy bracelets out of tiny multicoloured rubber bands.

DS3:
Achieved something on Plants vs Zombies.
Did some origami.
Got in my way.
Learned the lyrics to 'Wonderwall' and a dance to go with it.

So a mixed bag, really.

The words to Soft kitty were remembered half way up to bed in order to delay the inevitable. Thanks so much HP. DH nearly started singing it in the round...

They have reached 'Advanced level' in Bickering.

Oooh yes, mine are now ready to represent their school, if not their county, in pointless bickering.

DS has learnt loads:

The "trap it/unwrap it" Choc orange method,
How many consecutive days you can wear the same onesie before it walks to the wash basket by itself,
Which buttons to press to fast forward through the ads,
Advanced Radio Times reading and highlighting.

DH tried ruining my smug bubble today by telling me that the mark of good parenting skills is apparently NOT recording the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures and watching them under a duvet with DS and two selection boxes for breakfast.

He knows nothing.

JSSB I am in awe. I wish I had thought of that. To me that must be the epitome of parenting. Glasses of milk and nice coffee also required to make it perfect.

Mine have also achieved advanced level in bickering but have still not managed even the basics in tidying their rooms and getting up before 11.
However, they have both learnt to make tea and coffee for me.

I love the holidays. :)

Mine completed the first tune a day for clarinet and is working on duets with dh. She walked in with MY instrument and told me she was going to play it. She has also perfected pieces set by her music tutors and started teaching herself how to conduct. She's weird though.

tried teaching them to knit. Regretted it after several repeats of - oops, gone wrong again, oops, my stitches all fell off, help, I still don't get how to do the 'through' bit.

They both learned how to download new apps to my phone and play with them.

DS:coffee making, going up the shop for me, pushing my buttons until I explode

DD : mastering the iPad, regressing totally in the poo side if potty training. (Not a pre teen)

Dd can explain the rules, word for word, to rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock

She's also given her brain plenty of time to grow by sleeping until lunch everyday

DD has been initiated into the universe of Douglas Adams. She has designed some weird stuff in Minecraft. She and her little brother are bonding over traps and water lifts.
DS has learned the joy of family pizza and movie nights.
It has been rather nice most of the time.

DD has become quite an expert with the Tassimo Machine. Unfortunately her skills don't quite enable her to empty the little plastic pods into the bin.

Perhaps we'll work on that at Easter.

Mine is an expert on chocolate and perfecting the words "I don't want to go out".

I tried to educate my teen and pre-teen dds in relationships and the art of kissing by watching Sherlock kissing Molly with them, but they were more interested in the bungee jumping techniques. So they're well set up now for a gap year in New Zealand.
