My Dd is just turned 9. I think she has no idea about sex growing up etc. can anyone recommend a good book to start introducing her to everything?

I recommend the Usbourne Whats Happening to Me for Girls. I knew the school (she was in year 5) were going to talk to them about puberty but also I wanted her to be aware of changes that occur, so wanted to broach it first with her. I gave her the book and asked if she wanted to look at it with me, she said no and happily went off and read it on her own. I asked her if she had any questions, no, and then made it clear she could approach either one of us if she had any concerns in the future. In Year 6 they talked about sexual relations and I was actually looking at her science book today and it's all there is lots of detail!

The care and keeping of you I like this book...it is straightforward and includes not just physical and emotional development but also practical advice on dealing with the changes (shaving, skin care, tampons etc.) And whilst i know we would all love our DDs to be happy to commune with us on all of these things, sometimes a book can help to get the conversation going...or ease it if she can't bring herself to open up.

I recently bought this. It looks a bit awful on the outside but it's actually quite good, with the right level of details, I think. And I like that it covers both boys and girls. Doesn't hurt to know what other people are going through. Grin
