8 yr old DS, BO and body hair

My DS is 8 1/2 today he got changed from school and there was a right wiff from his arm pits.He had a shower before bed and washed this morning before school.
He also has a very small amount of pubic hair and little bits on the side of his mouth that are dark.
He is my eldest and young 8 iykwim,I am not sure (apart from washing him more) what I should do/bring up.
Would love some advice, am abit sad really it seems young to be getting into all this.

He sounds young to have hair developing, but the best place to start is regular washing and a good antiperspirant.

My son hated sprays at first as they are so cold - safer to start with a roll on!

I would take him to the doctor. Early puberty is a medical condition (more info here) that can often be treated, but it can also be a sign of underlying health conditions that need to be checked out.

I am not sure how much to talk to him about.I really thought this would be a few years off yet.
It's a couple of hairs (pubic) not so would notice unless your drying him out of the shower.
But the little tash hairs on his have been there a long time and while they are not wiry/bumfluffy they are dark hairs.

Just to be sure I have a GP appointment for Tuesday.
DH just got in and this i am over reacting.He said he was like that at that age.
Will see what the GP says.

Ds(9) started getting whiffy around same age. Kept it very light and and told him he was growing up and one of the things that happens to grown ups is they smell and he would need to wash more, eventually we got him a rollon for days he was doing sport. He has little hairs developing on his legs but nothing really noticeable as he doesn't have dark hair.

We had a laugh and told him he'd also get hairy and start liking girls. He didn't like the idea of liking girls. Also told him it will happen to everyone in his class, just at different ages because everyone's body does it a different ages.

Got him a what's happening to my bodybook and told him if he wanted to know more we can read it but the light chat we had was enough for him for now.

I took him to the Dr .She feels though it is early that there is nothing to worry about .she referred him...with a long wait list to the hopital just so they can check him out but she really i think i just doing it just to be sure.I Will know more when i get the leter .Any recommendations for a gentle roll on?Thanks for all your help its really helped.

Hi only girls here but dreading all this too! I would try Sanex zero if you can find it, it has no aluminum so effectively it's just a deo & less harmful. Waitrose & Boots sell it.

I use Bionsen for ds who is 9. It's also without aluminium. He too started smelling at your ds' age.

I have a daughter near in age and she has started smelling from under the arms although she bathes every night and has fresh clothes. I have been doing some research and found a new deodorant especially for kids in Boots. It is gentle, but very effective and she doesn't smell anymore. Oh! um called Fresh Kids

Janiemark,thanks for that.I will give it a try.I am glad they have one that targets children's skin.

We got the Sanzex Zero and so far so good.We also did the roll as per advice and it's going well.
