How to handle moodiness and crying?

DD (10.6) has recently started getting moody, taking the huff over nothing then crying.

When I ask her to tell me why she's upset, she denies being upset, says she's not crying as she's sobbing into her pillow, and refuses to talk to me.

I feel I'm being manipulated by her, to get a reaction. I end up getting fed up being stonewalled, and telling her that if she won't talk to me I'll just go away. Then she sobs even harder. Sad

She never does this with DH.

What can I do?

sounds harsh but I ask once and then say when she is ready to tell me I will be where ever

sometimes they do just need space and pandering to them can wind them up more

9 times out of 10 she has had a minor fallout with a friend and turns out she doesn't hate me after all!
