What type of mobile phone does your 11/12 year old have?

My daughter has just started comp and for now she has my husband's old phone on PAYG, but I can see it regularly running out as she's getting 5/6 texts a day and I suspect it will go up as she gets into, so looking at a contract.

I just wondered what phones other 11/12 year olds have - are they basic, qwerty, touchscreen? I know Blackberrys are popular but they are one of the most common phones to have faults! I've noticed three of her friends have touchscreen and one has a basic Samsung phone. Just wondering which is the best option for a one/two year contract.

Dd is in first year of high school. She currently has a blackberry on a years contract. It costs me £15 a month under my contract and she is capped at 75 minutes unlimited texts and unlimited data

Blackberry, without a doubt.

My DD's Blackberry is £7.99 per month (free phone) and has never incurred an extra charge in 18 months.

All her friends have Blackberry, so they use BBM to taxi one another.

Before DS1 had his Blackberry I was all 'what does he need a Blackberry for? it's not like he's running a business or anything'. I was very humphy about it. But I understand now.

I mean, how else would they ever communicate?
God forbid they should talk to each other.
Or not be able to broadcast what team they are in Fifa 13 or what they are having for dinner or what colour socks they are wearing?

Ds1 has been known to BBM Dd to ask her to get him a drink when they are in the same house!

Dd (just 13) has an iPhone 4s, has 200 mins, unlimited texts and data for £21pm. I bought the phone up front and she has a sim only contract on O2.

The constant BBM bonging though Tantrums. And you ask what's happening and they check it and say 'oh nothing' and for once they are right.

DD2 (11) Nokia c-300 I think it's called, cheaper blackberry style thing.

I hate it, horrible menu system and FB which she isn't on all across the start up screen.

It's on Dolphin, but I don't bother topping it up every month because she just amasses credit.

Oh and it annoying announces text messages in morse code, instead of my phones one bling.

DD1(14) has a Galaxy Ace, she likes it, but we haven't learnt to work it all yet.
